The laid-back vibes, the intimacy, the joy, the love. Backyard weddings are so fun for all of these reasons + more. This past summer, I had the opportunity to document Megan + Joel’s wedding at their very own home, surrounded by their loved ones (including their sweet pups!). They wanted to celebrate their love with their closest friends & family and party the night away without restrictions!
In typical mid-July fashion in Michigan, the sun was shining brightly throughout the whole day. It was warm and wonderful! Their ceremony site was set in front of the biggest tree in their yard, decorated with a single drape hanging over the lowest branch. The simplicity made it absolutely beautiful.
Their vows to each other were SO touching. The love was tangible. I LOVED being able to capture not only their reactions, but those of their family members as well. The atmosphere was serene, peaceful, and filled with so much joy!
I could never choose a favorite moment from the day, but one of my favorites had to be the bride’s father auctioneering their honeymoon fund after dinner. The crowd loved this (and so did I). It was so unexpected, but I was so glad to witness it.
Another favorite had to be the mother/son dance. A sweet slow dance quickly morphed into a high-energy, fast, goofy dance as they ran around each other on the dance floor!
I was so glad to be a part of this special celebration. The setting fit this couple perfectly. It is SUCH a joy for me to be able to photograph such beautiful, personal events. Megan + Joel, wishing you the best in your marriage for years and years to come!
